John Dewey will offer STEAM + B Career and Technical Education ("CTE") classes and will partner with a local community college or other institutions of higher learning. High school juniors and seniors from DCSD and surrounding school districts will be welcomed to attend. Students must have good attendance, the ability to get along with others, and the ability to work in a group and independently. Strong academic ability is advantageous because college work is often required. These CTE classes will be funded by a Perkins Grant, as well as through private funding and through business and industry partnerships, together with higher education collaborations.

Students with ASD will be given the opportunity to take CTE classes with a 2:4 teacher to student ratio, with a highly qualified instructor teaching the CTE class and with an Education Assistant supporting the students. This follows the successful model offered by T.A.C.T. -- Teaching the Autism Community Trades. DCSD currently buses hundreds of DCSD students out-of-District to T.A.C.T. because they do not offer CTE classes specifically designed for students on the Autism Spectrum. JDI will fill this gap in DCSD by providing the ASD community CTE classes taught by specially trained instructors.
